Improved ergonomics in the OR
Ergonomics during endoscopic surgery is even more important than with conventional surgery. This is because endoscopic procedures may take longer. By the trocars fixed instruments, the members of the surgical team are additionally longer in the same position.
The arrangement of the display relative to OR staff directly determines the posture of the neck. In poor ergonomic setup the direction to the screen differs from the direction to the working area. The surgeon has to rotate his head to observe the surgical screen. Prolonged standing in this in this extreme position increases the risk of physical complaints for the surgeon (in this case mainly neck pain).
The best screen position for the surgeon is right for him and as close to his working area as possible. This is the most optimal position where both the hands and the surgical monitor are in the eyeshot at the same time. Both working direction and viewing direction are the same, optimizing the efficiency and accuracy of the surgeon as well as minimizing the hazard of a neck injury.
